Barker started on YouTube as half of a comedy duo. He shot Obsession in Los Angeles in October 2024 for about $750,000. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. Focus Features then acquired it for a reported $15 million.
Obsession opened in US theatres on 15 May 2026 with $17.2 million, well above forecasts. It reached Indian cinemas on 29 May. Its worldwide total has passed $500 million which puts it among the ten highest-grossing films of 2026. Reviews were largely positive.
What is Obsession about?
Bear is a shy music store employee with a crush on his coworker and friend Nikki. He makes a wish on a novelty toy called the One Wish Willow that she will love him above everything. Nikki’s devotion arrives overnight and soon turns unsettling. Their friends Ian and Sarah notice the change.
Critics describe it as a fresh take on the old warning to be careful what you wish for. It carries an R rating in the US, so it suits adult viewers.
Obsession in Hindi – Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon voices
Varun Dhawan voices Bear in the Hindi version and Kriti Sanon voices Nikki. Amar Kaushik oversaw the Hindi version. JioHotstar shared a promo in which the two actors recreate the film’s tense restaurant scene in Hindi. Varun and Kriti have worked together before in Dilwale and Bhediya.
The film premiered on The Peacock Hub on 30 October at 7 pm.
Hindi or English: which version should you watch?
Choose Hindi if you want to hear Varun Dhawan as Bear and Kriti Sanon as Nikki. Pick English for the original performances by Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette. Critics singled out Navarrette’s performance as Nikki. Both versions stream on The Peacock Hub.
