Vidyut Jammwal Street Fighter: Dhalsim Role Explained
Vidyut Jammwal’s Hollywood debut as Dhalsim reaches cinemas on 16 October 2026. We tracked the latest updates on the film and the buzz is real. Few Indian actors land a major role in a big Hollywood franchise. So this release matters far beyond gaming circles. Vidyut Jammwal Street Fighter movie can break all the records.
Vidyut Jammwal in Street Fighter The Dhalsim Role
Kitao Sakurai directs the live-action Street Fighter reboot. Vidyut plays Dhalsim a peaceful Indian yogi with stretchy limbs and mystic powers. In the games, Dhalsim mixes calm spirituality with deadly fighting skill. That contrast makes him one of the franchise’s strangest and most loved characters.
The first look showed Vidyut with a shaved head and war paint on his face. The poster drew instant comparisons with the game character. Later, the studio dropped a new video on his physical transformation. It keeps his martial arts skills front and centre.
India gets the film in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. So audiences across the country can catch his debut in their own language.
The Star-Studded Street Fighter Cast
Andrew Koji plays Ryu, while Callina Liang takes on Chun-Li. Wrestling stars Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes play Akuma and Guile.
The first teaser debuted at a major gaming awards show in late 2025. Since then, each poster and trailer has pushed the buzz higher. The shoot took place in Sydney. Vidyut shared photos from there with rapper 50 Cent and Cody Rhodes on what looks like a yacht.
What Surprised Vidyut About Hollywood
Big budgets did not impress him most. Instead, he praised the discipline on set and the strong laws that protect technicians. He also believes the film honours the game’s world faithfully. So he expects it to appeal beyond hardcore gamers.
Dhalsim vs Vidyut’s Earlier Roles
Dhalsim breaks the pattern of Vidyut’s screen career. Here is how the role stacks up against his best-known characters.
From Villain to Hero to Yogi
Vidyut began Bollywood life as the villain in Force. That performance won him the Filmfare Best Male Debut award. Later, he turned hero in the Commando films. Those roles leaned on speed, stunts and raw aggression.
Baadshaho then gave him a uniformed role as Major Seher Singh. In Khuda Haafiz, his character raced to rescue his wife, so emotion drove the action.
What Makes Dhalsim Different
Dhalsim asks for stillness before the storm. The character stays calm, speaks softly and fights with patience. That is a new kind of challenge. Vidyut built his career on explosive physical energy. This time, he must show control as well.
The role also asks for flexibility and balance. Those are core strengths of Kalaripayattu, his long-time training.
What to Expect From the Film
Expect the most unusual fighting style in the franchise. Dhalsim’s stretchy moves set him apart from every other fighter. Watch how the film balances his calm nature with violence. That contrast defines the character in the games.
The Indian release matters. Four language versions suggest the makers see India as a key market. In that case, Vidyut’s presence could help the film connect at home. Still we have not seen the finished film. Judge his performance only after opening weekend.
From Jammu to Hollywood: Vidyut Jammwal’s Career Story
Vidyut Dev Singh Jammwal was born in Jammu on 10 December 1980. He grew up admiring Jackie Chan and trained in martial arts from an early age.

Before acting, he performed live action shows in more than 25 countries. That stage experience gave him the confidence to chase films. His debut came in a Telugu film. Soon after, he entered Bollywood with Force. Baadshaho followed in 2017, and Junglee arrived in 2019 under director Chuck Russell of The Scorpion King fame.
The Commando franchise cemented his action-hero image. Besides stunt-heavy films, he also tried grounded thrillers. Khuda Haafiz and its sequel showed a more emotional side of his screen persona.
Vidyut stepped behind the camera too. He produced IB 71, and he starred in and produced Crakk in 2024. Crakk struggled badly at the box office. In 2025, he appeared in Madharaasi opposite Sivakarthikeyan.
He also hosted the reality series India’s Ultimate Warrior. Around the same time he signed with a Hollywood talent agency that represents Tony Jaa and Dolph Lundgren. That move laid the groundwork for Dhalsim.
Martial Arts and Action Style
Kalaripayattu defines Vidyut’s screen identity. He trained in the ancient Indian art for years before acting. He is also known for performing his own stunts. Similarly, hits like Khuda Haafiz and the Commando films built their appeal on that raw physical edge.
So Dhalsim feels like a natural fit. The role demands flexibility, balance and real martial discipline. Vidyut says his Kalari background made the part feel meant for him.
Dhalsim could change how Hollywood sees Indian action stars. Will you watch Vidyut’s big debut on opening weekend?
