Mika Singh Draws a Line – “Prove It or I Quit Singing”
Mika Singh has pushed back against claims that his brother Daler Mehndi was drunk during a recent performance in Uttarakhand. He says the veteran singer has been dealing with serious health issues for two years and recently underwent major surgery.
The controversy began at the Maa Kunjapuri Mela in Tehri Garhwal on Sunday, October 18, when Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted Mehndi’s performance mid-show. A video of the confrontation quickly went viral online.
What the Minister Said
Uniyal told reporters that Mehndi appeared disoriented and struggled to stay standing throughout the performance. He also claimed the singer was only lip-syncing rather than actually singing live.
“He is a big artist. If a big artist doesn’t do justice to their art…” Uniyal said, explaining why he stepped in. He added that the government had offered Mehndi Rs 35 lakh for the show, which is why he felt compelled to express his frustration on stage.
Mika Singh’s Response
Singh didn’t hold back in defending his elder brother. He challenged anyone making the intoxication claims directly saying he would quit singing himself if proof ever surfaced of Mehndi drinking.
Footage from the event shows Mehndi asking the minister to step away from the stage during the confrontation. Mika Singh’s response has since circulated widely alongside the original viral clip.

Comedian Kapil Sharma Joins the Defense
Kapil Sharma also spoke out in support of Daler Mehndi following the incident urging compassion given the singer’s recent health struggles. His comments added another prominent voice to the growing pushback against the minister’s public accusation.
Uttarakhand folk singer and Padma Shri awardee Pritam Bhartwan offered a more measured take saying he personally couldn’t confirm whether Mehndi had been under the influence.
The alcohol allegations remain unverified. No independent confirmation has emerged either supporting or disproving the minister’s claims and the controversy continues to generate strong reactions from fans and fellow artists alike.
The Mika Singh Daler Mehndi drunk allegation and Mika’s fierce defense of his brother have added a personal human dimension to a story that started as a public political confrontation. Do you think the minister’s onstage reaction was justified, or should it have been handled privately?
